The good old British weather

Always check the weather before you head out on a trip to the coast
A wide range of weather forecasts is available at both the
BBC Coastal Weather or Met Office websites.

Alternatively, if you are planning to do some sailing, MetFAX
Marine can help you plan your trip to make the most of the weather.
This specialist service for marine users provides forecasts for
16 inshore areas around the UK and six offshore areas, along
with shipping forecasts, surface pressure charts and satellite images.

To find out more, dial the MetFAX Marine Index Page from your fax machine on 09060 100 401. (Calls are charged at £1 per minute and typically take 2-4 minutes.)

Other ways to find out the weather are:

  • Listen to the shipping forecast on Radio 4 or the local radio forecast
  • Teletext ITV Pages 188 and 205
  • Telephone the local Coastguard or listen to their reports on VHF channel 67

The Met Office also produces a FREE Marine Weather Services booklet. It contains a whole range of useful information to help you plan your sailing trip and make the most of the weather.  Request a booklet here.

If you're lucky with the weather, remember to take care in the sun. Pack high factor sunscreen for all the family and take loose fitting clothing and hats with you. Don't be fooled by a cool breeze or light cloud as you can still burn.
