Watch for Hazards

There are many hazards on and around the beach.  Many of these can be hidden underwater, especially at high tide.

Conditions around structures and rocks can change with:

  • Sudden rip currents
  • Undertows
  • Large breaking waves
  • Unpredictable wakes from passing craft

To stay safe:

Take note and follow any safety signs in the area

  • Do not swim near or around these hazards
  • Never run, climb on or jump off them
  • Be careful when walking on wet or uneven surfaces
  • Watch out for sharp objects, such as rocks, shells and even
    glass whilst walking around barefoot
  • If you are not sure, ask a lifeguard or those resonsible for
    structures or the beach area
  • Keep away from cliff edges, they can be slippery and unstable
  • Caves and coves are great to explore, but can be cut off by tides.
Ensure you know what time high tide is and keep a vigilant eye out.
  • Do not jump into the water from these hazards, the water could
    be shallow with unseen rocks.
  • Also, currents and undertows  created by piers, jetties,
etc are dangerous and could easily cause fatality.
