STCW Review

Introduction

As you may be aware STCW 78 as amended is currently under review.  We have a number of concerned seafarers enquiring as to how this will effect their certification.

The final review session will take place in January 2010 and if all goes well the revised code will be adopted in June 2010.  The adoption of the new code does not mean that the changes come into immediate effect; you may recall that the 95 amendment to STCW did not fully come into force until 2002, therefore, seafarers should be assured that the transitional period will be sufficient to adopt any amendments that MAY affect their certification.

As the code review has not yet been finalised it would be inappropriate to speculate on the future requirements, however, we will endeavour to keep you informed via this page.
