Chapter ii-2 of solas: construction - fire protection, fire detection and fire extinction Introduction Chapter II-2 of SOLAS, Fire Protection, Fire Detection and Fire Extinction, has been revised and enters into force on 1 July 2002. It is being implemented by means of the Merchant Shipping (Fire Protection) Regulations 2003. However it should be noted that some parts of Chapter ll-2 apply to existing ships and these are set out in regulations 1.2.2 and 1.6.7 of Chapter ll-2. Reference should be made to the Merchant Shipping (Fire Protection) Regulations (Amendment) Regulations 2003 which implements the amendments to existing legislation where Chapter ll-2 applies to existing ships. This publication has been prepared to help ship-owners, masters, crews and industry to understand and comply with the new regulations. The publication contains the full International Maritime Organization (IMO) text of each Regulation. Following the text of each Regulation are explanatory Guidance Notes relating to the Regulation or part of the Regulation. The full titles of IMO resolutions, IMO resolutions published as Codes, IMO Circulars, and other standards referenced within the Regulations or Guidance Notes are listed in the Appendix.
