Man Rescued From Cliff After 36 Hour Ordeal

A man who slipped from a path on Monday and slid down a steep slope into thick undergrowth was rescued by a Coastguard rescue team and Coastguard helicopter this afternoon. He had been stuck in dense undergrowth on the south side of the Isle of Wight since Monday evening until his calls were heard by a dog walker today who called 999 and reported his plight to Solent Coastguard. read more..

Unmanned Yacht Prompts Search for Man Overboard

At 11am this morning Thames Coastguard were alerted to an unmanned yacht off the Red Sands Towers by the motor vessel El Bravo II. The yacht, named Serendipity, had her engine running but there was no-one aboard. There was little initial information to suggest where the yacht had come from or what had occurred to leave the vessel unmanned. Further investigation revealed that the yacht with one person aboard had set out from the Pyefleet Channel near Colchester at 6am that morning bound for the river Medway in Kent.  read more..

Missing Yacht Found After Major Search Off Shetland

At 3.30 this afternoon Shetland Coastguard were alerted by two yachtsmen who expressed concern for two further male colleagues who were on board the 31 foot Moen motor yacht `Nina and who had not been heard of since 8.00 p.m. on Thursday after setting sail from the Suderoy Bank, Faroe Islands to Foula in Shetland also on Thursday (10th July). The vessel was due in at 11.00 p.m. yesterday evening and was therefore already an estimated 16 hours late. read more..

Angler Missing After Late Night Swim

At 22.30pm yesterday evening (Saturday) Stornoway Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of an angling party who were camping on the shore of Loch Assynt, East of Lochinver. One of the party, a 20 year old male, had taken a swim across the loch and was swimming back towards their campsite when he got into difficulties in the middle of the loch. His friends stated they could still see him at the time of the initial call but they then lost him from view.  read more..

Yesterday evening Holyhead Coastguard received a 999 call from a mobile phone concerning a group of three Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) with 20 students and 3 instructors from the National Watersport Centre at Plas Menai reporting that one of the RIBs had capsized.
