Kayaker Pronounced Dead At Lunan Bay

At just before 5.00pm this afternoon Forth Coastguard were alerted to two kayakers in the water at Lunan Bay, both of whom had over turned about 100 – 150 metres from the beach. Both kayaks were on shore. One person had managed to come ashore whilst the other was being swept out to sea. The information received indicated that the man still in the water was wearing a flotation device.  read more..

Yacht Collisions, Grounded Vessels and Men Overboard

With 1,779 boats competing in yesterdays Round The Island race, Solent Coastguard were well prepared for a challenging day. This year, the annual Round The Island race generated a flurry of incidents, with the Coastguard Helicopter, Coastguard Rescue Teams and RNLI lifeboats being called to assist grounded vessels and men overboard, as well as the FastCat that operates between Portsmouth and Ryde, which became grounded on its 5.45 crossing. read more..

International Search for Missing Yacht

Coastguards and rescue authorities from both sides of the Atlantic are currently involved in the search for a French yacht, Actuel. The ten metre white yacht has two people on board. It departed St Pierre and Miquelon (a group of small islands off the eastern coast of Canada near Newfoundland) on 21 May, bound for Le Havre with a possible stop over in Scotland or Ireland. The last contact with the vessel was with the captains daughter who spoke with him on the phone on 24th May. At that time he said that everything was going well although they were a week behind schedule. The last known contact would put the vessel somewhere mid Atlantic.  read more..

Two Men Rescued From Toy Inflatable

At twenty five minutes past ten yesterday evening, Swansea Coastguard received a 999 call from a man in a toy inflatable dinghy. The man and his companion stated that they were unable to make shore near Ogmore by Sea, South Wales. Both had been in the water and had managed to climb back into the 11 foot, toy inflatable dinghy prior to phoning. The two men were cold and distraught. They are aged 40 and 29 and were wearing board shorts and tee shirts. read more..
