68 Year Old Man Injures Leg on Yacht Propellor After Fall

Holyhead Coastguard have been coordinating the recovery to hospital this afternoon of a man in his 60s from Moelfre who, after falling from his dinghy, suffered lacerations to his leg after coming into contact with the propeller of a nearby yacht who came to assist him. read more..

Today at Lerwick Sheriff Court, Captain Alexander Phimister (62) pleaded guilty to allowing drunk crew members on board, a breach of the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention (ISM Code). For this he was fined £1,800. read more..

At ten minutes to seven this evening London Coastguard received a call reporting two adults and a baby stranded on Chiswick Eyot, an island in the Thames near Hammersmith Bridge. Boy Cliff Faller Rescued By Coastguard

A 15-year-old boy who had fallen 10 metres down cliffs at the village of Shulishader, Point, on the Isle of Lewis was stabilised on scene by a Coastguard Rescue Officer before being airlifted by the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter to the Western Isles Hospital this afternoon. read more..

Diver Airlifted to Decompression Chamber

A diver was airlifted to hospital this afternoon suffering with the symptoms of decompression sickness. The 51 year old man from Threlkeld in Cumbria had just completed a 48 metre dive when he started suffering with head aches, dizziness and vomiting. The dive boat contacted Forth Coastguard at 1.20 pm who put the dive boat in contact with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The doctor there advised helicopter evacuation and the RAF rescue helicopter from Lossiemouth was scrambled and airlifted the diver to hospital. read more..

Two Canoeists Rescued From Loch Ness

Two canoeists were rescued from Loch Ness this afternoon after their green canoe capsized in choppy conditions. The two were spotted struggling in the water, north of Invermoriston, by a canoeing instructor who happened to be passing in his car. The instructor called Aberdeen Coastguard at 4.00 pm on his mobile to report the plight of the two canoeists who were both wearing red lifejackets. read more..

Family Rescued on Easter Day

A photograph has been unearthed of a family that was rescued by Coastguards 40 years ago on Easter Sunday after they became cut off by the tide at St Margarets Bay in Kent. Dangers remain very much the same for coastal visitors in 2009.
