Liverpool Coastguard is coordinating the rescue of four passengers from the roll on roll off ferry Riverdance four miles off Fleetwood in the Irish Sea. The 19 crew are likely to stay on board for the time being. read more..

Shortly before 1400 this afternoon Brixham Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received numerous 999 calls from members of the public with reports of a hang glider that had apparently made an uncontrolled descent into cliffs at Portwrinkle.  read more..

Anglo Spanish Fishing Vessel Alerts Coastguard to Fire

Around 12.30 today, Clyde Coastguard received a telephone call from the Coastguard in Madrid requesting urgent assistance to a fishing vessel the `Shark, which had an out of control fire on board within the accommodation area, and was off the coast of Ireland, but within the United Kingdoms search and rescue area.  read more..

Napoli: a Year on

The first phase of the removal of the stern section of the MSC Napoli has now ended. All the accommodation block has been cut away and the scrap has been removed for disposal. The bow section was towed to a yard in Northern Ireland last year. read more..

Ice Prince Update

At the site of the wreck the UK tug Anglian Earl is remaining on scene as a guardship. With 46.8 metres of estimated clearance over the wreck it is not seen to be a hazard to navigation but a full survey of the wreck site will be carried out today by the Irish Lights vessel Granuaile. The vessel arrived on scene this morning and will confirm the precise clearance. The Temporary Exclusion Zone of 1000 metres is still in force. read more..

In the early hours of Monday morning a large car carrier The City of Sunderland weighing 9576 Gross Registered Tonnes and carrying 642 cars, ran aground at the south edge of Haisborough Sands, 8 miles off the coast between Cromer and Great Yarmouth Norfolk. read more..

Vessel Abandoned and Drifting Mid Channel

At just before midnight last night it was confirmed to the Coastguard at Brixham that all 20 crew had now abandoned the `Ice Prince which has is presently drifting and listing at 40 degrees to port. Coastguard Tug Mobilised to Drifting Chemical Vessel

Just before 11.30 this morning Portland Coastguard were alerted to a chemical tanker the `Mariella, a 1986 built, 41,766 tonne, 228 metre long Norwegian vessel with an 8.3 metre draft which had dragged its anchor in gale force conditions with winds gusting up to 45 knots in Weymouth Bay.  read more..

At 8:15 this morning Solent Coastguard received a radio call from the Red Osprey ferry reporting that a foot passenger seen to board in Southampton had not disembarked in Cowes on arrival at 8:06am. A full search of the ferry was conducted but the man had not been found. read more..

The Master of a coaster was brought before a Magistrates Court yesterday after being found to be three times over the prescribed limits for alcohol when preparing to sail. Oleg Syrovatko, a Ukrainian national, pleaded guilty to one breach of the Railway and Transport Safety Act 2003. read more..

Hoax Caller Imprisoned

A hoax caller who risked the lives of members of the public and rescuers by making a malicious call to Holyhead Coastguard on August 1st 2007 was today sentenced to 15 months imprisonment. Patrick Lane pleaded guilty to the charge of causing a public nuisance and was sentenced today at Caernarfon Crown Court. read more..
