Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Our Information and Communications Technologies team comprises of the Technical Services Helpdesk, IT Systems and Telecoms.

Service Desk
The Technical Services Helpdesk is responsible for delivering support to the Agency's IT systems to a defined service level.

IT Systems
IT Systems is responsible for managing and developing the major corporate IT systems, the large database systems that they depend on, the wide area and local area networks (including e-mail systems) and the internet and intranet. IT Systems also provide a team of on-call personnel for 24 by 7 support of critical systems.

Telecommunications
Telecoms Branch is responsible for meeting the MCA’s requirement for all telecommunications services from providing technical advice, project management, investigations: procurement and support for all radio, radar, ICCS, CNIS and AIS equipment together with the land/microwave link infrastructure and UPS/battery power services: provision of telephone switches/lines, fax machines, mobile phones and pagers to the disposal of this equipment.

Programme Support

Programme Support comprises both IT Procurement and IT Security and Policy. The procurement and contracts team carries out all IT purchasing for the Agency, using Government approved buying routes. Our Security and Policy team defines procedure and provides advice on all aspects of Security, the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.

Information Management

The Information Management Branch provides a centre of expertise on information and knowledge management and maintains the MCA’s Information Strategy. The IM branch also manages the development program of new corporate information systems in partnership with the relevant business stakeholders and the Information Communication Technology branch; IM also prioritises these projects through the MCA’s Information Roadmap.

The Document Registry provides a complete records management and storage service that fulfills MCA's statutory requirements and supports MCA's business needs.

Coastal Resources

The Coastal Resources branch is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the MCA's operational equipment provision. This includes the evaluation, procurement and issue of; rescue equipment, vehicles, boats, uniforms and miscellaneous equipment to the Coastguard Rescue Teams, Marine Offices, Surveyors and Administrative staff nationwide.  The Coastal Resources Branch also has responsibility for the Technical component of the MCA's Health and Safety Policy, this involves leading in H&S programmes, reviewing systems, and general awareness to ensure that the agency achieves the highest standards to achieve a safe and healthy working environment.

Estate Services

Estate Services are responsible for the management of the MCA estate ensuring that all MCA operational requirements are met and value for money is obtained; the procurement and management of national contracts in respect of estate and works management, mechanical and electrical services; compliance with new building legislation, e.g. asbestos, disabled access requirements; major building projects; facilities management of the MCA Southampton Headquarters building; implementation of the Government Greening policy and initiatives; MCA Security Officer functions; co-ordination of the Spring Place Business Continuity Plan; provision of central contact point for advice on property issues.
